At their Annual General Meeting of the Members on Saturday, June 27, 2026, held at Woodbine Racetrack, The Jockey Club of Canada appointed their new Chief Steward, Frank Romeo, who steps into the role for one year following the passing of Doug Anderson. A son of Dom Romeo, who was recently recognized with the Mint Julep Cup by Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division), Frank now oversees the family's Terra Racing Stable alongside his brother, Mark. One of their most recent success stories was with 2024 Sovereign Award Champion Older Main Track Female, Fashionably Fab.

The legendary Roger Attfield, a dual Hall of Famer who recently announced his retirement as a trainer, will join the Board of Stewards for one year.

Also announced during the meeting were new members Bryan and Carol Anderson, Eurico Da Silva, Rita Eskudt, Rachel Halden, Mark Romeo, and Evan Sandhu.

Newly inducted into the British Columbia Horse Racing Hall of Fame, Bryan and Carol Anderson have been involved in racing for decades, and continue to be staunch supporters of British Columbia racing and breeding.

A multiple Sovereign Award-winning jockey, Eurico Da Silva now works closely with those in need through his Equine Experiential Connection Program at LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society.

Longtime partner of the late Doug Anderson, Rita Eskudt and their sons have taken up the banner of their Braconcrest Inc., and continue his devotion to racing and breeding.

Born in England, Rachel Halden would eventually come to Canada and work as an Assistant Trainer to Roger Attfield for nearly a decade before stepping out on her own in 2008 and achieving success for owners such as Chiefswood Stables Limited.

In addition to helping his family fly the Terra banner, Mark Romeo is also heavily involved with a variety of racehorses through the Canuck Racing Club.

Evan Sandhu and his family have jumped onto the Ontario racing scene with wholehearted enthusiasm, purchasing horses in training, broodmares, and recently standing stallions under their Amplify Stables banner.
