Magnitude, most recently the Stephen Foster Stakes (G1) winner, is firmly planted atop the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's weekly Top Thoroughbred Poll as of July 13.
The poll represents horses competing for Horse of the Year. The Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes Nov. 3 following the Breeders' Cup World Championships being held at Keeneland. Rankings are derived from a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-1 points scale with first-place votes from national media voters in parentheses, 2026 record, and total points.
Magnitude holds a firm position with 308 total points, which include 29 first-place votes.
Rounding out the top five are Nysos (271 points), Golden Tempo (150), Forever Young (143), and Baeza (125).
Magnitude and Nysos are both being aimed for the Whitney Stakes (G1) Aug. 8 at Saratoga Race Course. Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds and trained by Steve Asmussen, Magnitude (by Not This Time ) is following the same game plan the owner and trainer followed in 2017 with their Horse of the Year Gun Runner . Magnitude started this year's campaign by winning the Razorback Handicap (G3) and then followed by winning the Dubai World Cup (G1) and Stephen Foster. The 4-year-old colt has eight wins from 14 career starts to date and earned $9,611,365.
Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Golden Tempo will make his next start in the Aug. 29 Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
