The final live sale of the year for Fasig-Tipton, the Midlantic December Mixed and Horses of Racing Age Sale, concluded Dec. 5 with a Ghostzapper weanling topping the day at $82,000. The sale overall took a downturn year-on-year in gross by 53%, with final receipts of $1,518,100.
Northview Stallion Station (David Wade) consigned the session-topping colt out of the 4-year-old mare Dance All Day as Hip 29. The bay Maryland-bred is the first foal out of the unraced Exaggerator mare, a half sibling to grade 3-placed Safe Conduct and stakes winner Dancing Duchess. The page carries grade 1-placed Canadian Horse the Year and champion sprinter of 2008 Fatal Bullet.
Machmer Hall made two purchases Tuesday for a gross of $120,000 to be the sale's leading buyer.
Consignor Bill Reightler sent winner Truancy through the ring as Hip 127, seeing her realize $55,000 from Country Life Farm, agent, to be the highest-priced broodmare prospect Tuesday. The 4-year-old Run Away and Hide filly is a winner of $135,350 and a half sibling to Confrontation, a multiple grade 3-placed gelding by War Pass, and the stakes-placed Catch a Thrill, by City Zip.
Reightler sold 49 of his 57-horse draft for a gross of $480,200, at an average of $9,800, to be the sale's leading seller.
Cash Is King spent $52,000 on the winning Speightstown mare Abracadabra, who sold in foal to Practical Joke ; the mare has produced four foals, one of which is a winner of 2023. The 11-year-old mare is a full sibling to Commonwealth Stakes (G3) victor Bobby's Wicked One and grade 3-placed Wicked Fast, by Tourist. Northview Stallion Station (David Wade), agent for James F. Thames (Horse Play Racing), consigned the broodmare as Hip 2.
Charles Maffey ponied up $17,000 for the yearling colt by Goldencents out of the top broodmare Abracadabra. Consigned as Hip 135 by the same connections as the mare, the Kentucky-bred colt is named Magic Gold. An update to the colt's page came when his Irish War Cry brother, Irish Warlock, won Nov. 23, increasing his earnings to $56,784 in 13 starts this year at 3.
Paynter's Prodigy, a winner in his first start Nov. 11 at Laurel Park for Rose Petal Stable and trainer Gary Capuano, took the eye of Flatbird Stable, selling for $40,000 to be the highest-priced racing prospect from the session. Marshall W. Silverman consigned the 2-year-old Paynter gelding as Hip 200.
Fasig-Tipton reports 148 of the 187 horses through the ring sold Tuesday for gross receipts of $1,518,100, down 53% over 2022, establishing a $10,257 average and median of $5,000. There were 39 horses that did not sell to represent a RNA rate of 20.9%.
Last year's sale saw 172 horses traded of the 228 offered for a gross of $3,233,600. An average price of $18,800 and a $10,000 median was recorded. The RNA rate of 24.6% represents the 56 individuals who did not sell.
