The day after the Kentucky Derby (G1) is typically a time to relax, but there will be no rest for the weary May 4 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The New York Racing Associated has bundled four stakes on its Sunday card—three of them graded stakes—which will give horsemen and jockeys a chance to fly home from Kentucky for a day of racing next to Kennedy Airport.
Topping the card is the $175,000 Westchester Stakes (G3), a mile steppingstone to the June 7 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
The field of seven features grade 3-placed Bishops Bay, a son of Uncle Mo with an oversized ownership group of 12 different owners.
Trained by Brad Cox, he has never finished worse than second in eight lifetime starts, with five wins. But he Is still in search of an initial graded stakes win.
He comes in off a neck victory in the 1 1/16-mile American Pharoah Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
The field also includes Paul Berube, Karen Linnell, and Heather Hunter's Quint's Brew, who was beaten a neck in the Carter Stakes (G2).
The $175,000 Beaugay Stakes (G3T) includes a three-horse entry from trainer Chad Brown in grade 2 winners Grayosh, Dynamic Pricing, and Spaliday.
Raqiya, the beaten favorite in the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational Stakes (G2T). tops the challengers in the 1 1/16-mile turf test for older fillies and mares.
Grade 1 winner Leslie's Rose will make her 2025 debut in the Vagrancy Stakes (G3), a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for older fillies and mares.
