With the Road to the Kentucky Derby completed and the nation's top 3-year-olds awaiting May 3 for their next venture to the starting gate, it came as no surprise that there were only minor changes to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Top 3-Year-Old Poll April 22.
Those minor changes came in the form of a few swaps in placing in the middle of the top 10. Godolphin's Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner Sovereignty increased his placing on the leaderboard from fifth to fourth, swapping places with Wood Memorial (G2) winner Rodriguez.
Second to third-ranked Tappan Street in the Florida Derby (G1), the son of Into Mischief drew attention April 19 with a good-looking five furlong workout in 1:00 3/5, his first over the Churchill Downs surface.
Whitham Thoroughbreds' Burnham Square also recorded his first workout at Churchill Downs Saturday since winning the April 8 Blue Grass Stakes (G1), recording a half-mile in :49 2/5. Ranked seventh by the national media who vote in the NTRA poll last week, Burnham Square elevated into sixth place this week and demoted Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Tiztastic to seventh.
Godolphin homebred First Mission joined the leaderboard in the NTRA's Top Thoroughbred Poll, ranking seventh after a strong two-length victory in the $1.25 million Oaklawn Handicap (G2) at Oaklawn Park Saturday.
