Nebraska-bred They Call Me Moose broke through to win a maiden special weight at Fonner Park March 28 to give Giant Expectations his first winner as a sire.

The 3-year-old gelding utilized a ground-saving trip that culminated with jockey Jayden Ironeyes taking him along the rail for the neck win. They Call Me Moose paid $12.40 for a $2 win ticket in the six-furlong contest. It was his second career start, which was rewarded with $700 in earnings.

Grady Thompson bred the colt, whom he also trains. He shares ownership with Whitney and Deborah Thompson.

Giant Expectations is a 12-year-old, New York-bred son of Frost Giant bred by Sunrise Stables. Giant Expectations was 4-5-4 from 25 starts and $1,351,600 in career earnings.

His biggest victories came as a 4-year-old, taking the Pat O'Brien Stakes (G2) and the San Antonio Stakes (G2). He ran in grade 1s five times, most notably a fifth-place effort in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1).

Giant Expectations entered stud in 2021 and stands for $1,500 at Pryor Ranch near Omaha, Neb.

He was trained by Peter Eurton and owned by David Bernsen, Exline-Border Racing, Gatto Racing, and Garett Zubok.
