The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities announced April 11 that its International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee had approved the promotion of Uruguay to Part I for the 2025 publication of the International Cataloguing Standards Book. This promotion has been ratified by the Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers.
Uruguay's promotion from Part II of the ICS Book sees it join other South American countries Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru as a Part I country.
A total of 24 races in Uruguay are currently included in the "Other Races" section of Part I (two group 1 races, four group 2 races and 18 group 3 races), as well as 26 races in Part II that are recognized as international listed races. These races will continue to be recognized as per their current group and listed status.
Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas, in Montevideo, also this year will run its first Breeders' Cup Challenge Race June 29. The one-mile Asociación Uruguaya de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3) has been designated as an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1).
