Multiple graded stakes winner Cogburn 's stud fee has been set at AU$27,500 (approx. US$17,326, AU$1=US$0.63), including goods and services tax, when he shuttles to Widden Stud in Australia later this year, according to a report by ANZ Bloodstock News.
The son of Not This Time set the North American record for 5 1/2 furlongs in :59.80 in the 2024 Jaipur Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course, a time that is believed to be a world record. He banked more than $2.4 million in earnings while winning nine races from 16 starts. Cogburn currently stands for US$30,000 at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky.
"He's everything Australian breeders are looking for or wanting, and definitely one of those considerations is the price point," Widden Stud owner Antony Thompson told ANZ Bloodstock News.
"I think to be able to breed a highly commercial yearling from a really fast, good-looking horse, that fee gives you a huge opportunity. He's very well priced considering he's $30,000 in the United States, which is close to AU$50,000—he's half-price on the world's scale."
Cogburn was bred in Kentucky by Bellary Bay Bloodstock and is out of the stakes-winning mare In a Jif. Clark Brewster purchased Cogburn at the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training for $150,000 and raced him in partnership with William and Corinne Heiligbrodt. Cogburn was trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen for the entirety of his career.
