Bucanero Fuerte, winner of the 2023 Phoenix Stakes (G1), has left Tally-Ho Stud and returned to the yard of Adrian Murray, the trainer confirmed at the Curragh March 29.
The son of leading sire Wootton Bassett returned to training after suffering from what Murray described as "fertility issues" and now the 4-year-old will return to competitive action in the coming months.
The high-class juvenile, who was successful in the 2023 Railway Stakes (G2) as well as the Phoenix Stakes for Amo Racing, has not been gelded.
Murray said: "He's been back around four weeks now and it's exciting to have him back in training. It's disappointing from a breeding point of view but from a racing point of view, it's exciting. It's too early to nail down a target at this stage but we'll be making a plan six or eight weeks down the road."
That Phoenix Stakes success was the first group 1 victory for Murray as a trainer, and he is aided by Robson de Aguiar, who began riding for the Westmeath trainer about nine years ago, and through Aguiar came to know Kia Joorabchian of Amo Racing.
It was Aguiar who sourced Bucanero Fuerte as a yearling, going to €165,000 to secure him from the Haras d'Etreham consignment at the Arqana August Yearling Sale of 2022. He is a brother to 2020 Prix de l'Abbaye (G1) winner and Haras de Bouquetot second-season sire Wooded.
Successful in three starts as a juvenile, Bucanero Fuerte had retired to Tally-Ho for an advertised fee of €12,500 for the 2025 breeding season.
