Florida's Thoroughbred breeding season is showing remarkable vitality, demonstrating the enduring strength of the state's prestigious breeding program. As breeding sheds opened their doors on Valentine's Day, February 14th, the industry has witnessed a surge of activity that underscores Florida's pivotal role in Thoroughbred breeding excellence.

Recent results from the 2025 March 2YO in Training Sale highlight Florida's breeding prowess, with two Florida-based stallions producing top-selling horses that delivered staggering returns on investment. A colt by Ocala Stud's Adios Charlie (Hip #764), who stands for $3,000, commanded an impressive $410,000—representing a remarkable 136 times return on stud fee investment. Equally impressive, a filly by Pleasant Acres Stallions' Leinster (Hip #505), who stands for just $2,500, achieved an outstanding $400,000, delivering an extraordinary 160 times multiple on the breeding investment. These phenomenal returns underscore the exceptional value proposition and profit potential within Florida's breeding program.

"These results demonstrate that Florida remains a powerhouse in Thoroughbred breeding," says Christine Jones, Pleasant Acres Stallions' Director of Stallion Services. "The success we're seeing is a testament to the collaborative spirit of #TeamFloridaThoroughbreds—our breeders, stallion facilities, trainers, backstretch and farm employees, equine support businesses, racetracks, and industry stakeholders— working together toward strengthening Florida's Thoroughbred legacy."

The state's leading breeding operations, including Pleasant Acres Stallions and Ocala Stud, continue to attract quality mares and produce exceptional thoroughbreds, reinforcing that Florida is a vital hub for the industry. These recent sales figures highlight the tremendous opportunities available in Florida's Thoroughbred industry, where careful planning and investment in quality bloodstock can yield significant results.

"Now more than ever, unity within our Thoroughbred community is crucial," Jones adds. "By working together as #TeamFloridaThoroughbreds, we're ensuring our state remains a cornerstone of Thoroughbred excellence for generations to come."
