Lake Hamilton Equine Center's freshman sire Petrov sired his first winner Sept. 26 when his daughter Shesacinch won her second career start at Prairie Meadows by five lengths.
Trained by Tyrone Gleason, who co-owns the filly with Kent Bamford, Shesacinch stalked the pace early in the 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race and despite a wide trip throughout finished drawing away from the field in 1:07.19.
Dr. J.W. Clement bred Shesacinch out of the Hightail daughter Kiwi Nana, a half sister to 2019 Arkansas Breeders' Championship Stakes and Nodouble Breeders' Stakes winner Hoonani Road (Jonesboro). Shesacinch is also her dam's first winner.
Petrov is among nine sons of the late Flatter at stud this year in Kentucky, Arkansas, Maryland, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Ontario.
Sun Valley Farm bred Petrov in Kentucky out of the winning Bertrando mare Saracina. He would eventually be sold for $55,000 to agent Steve Young during the 2016 Ocala Breeders' Sales June 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. He was raced initially by Rialto Racing Stables and Southern Springs Stables with trainer Ron Moquett. The ownership group later added Head of Plains Partners after he ran second in the Southwest Stakes (G3). Petrov never won a stakes, but he was stakes-placed six times. He retired with a 7-4-4 record and earned $650,197.
Petrov stood this year for $1,000.
