Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan vaulted into first place in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's top 3-year-old poll following his nose victory at Churchill Downs May 4.

In the poll voted on by national media, Mystik Dan received 22 of 31 first-place votes. In addition to his Derby win, the son of Goldencents  won the Feb. 3 Southwest Stakes (G3) and placed in the March 30 Arkansas Derby (G1), both at Oaklawn Park.

Racing for the partnership of Lance Gasaway, 4 G Racing, Daniel Hamby III, and Valley View Farm, Mystik Dan has won three of seven lifetime starts and has earned $3,741,360.

Mystik Dan was one of two grade 1 winners on the weekend trained by Kenny McPeek. The other, Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Thorpedo Anna, ranks sixth in the poll.

Derby runner-up Sierra Leone is ranked second. Muth, who defeated Mystik Dan in the Arkansas Derby but could not race in the Kentucky Derby due to trainer Bob Baffert's suspension from Churchill Downs, sits third.

In the top overall Thoroughbred poll, Eclipse champion Idiomatic moved into second following her win in the May 3 La Troienne Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs. First Mission, who won the Alysheba Stakes (G2) later that day, places fourth. Saudi Cup (G1) winner Senor Buscador remains in the top spot.
