In a heartfelt tribute to the late Clinton Glasscock, a 2-year-old Thoroughbred Colt owned by Starlight Racing has been named Coach Clint.
Coach Clint, by Laoban—I Wonder, by Arch, was purchased at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sale, is named in honor of Clinton Glasscock, who was a Starlight Racing Partner for 15 years, as well as a tennis coach at his beloved St. Xavier High School. Coach Clint is in training with Brendan Walsh, at Keeneland, and will be moving over to Churchill Downs in May. The name embodies Glasscock's enduring legacy and his profound impact on the Thoroughbred business.
In addition to commemorating Glasscock's legacy, Coach Clint's racing career will facilitate donations through an auction, allowing individuals to bid on and acquire 10% of the horse's net earnings for the entire duration of Starlight's ownership of Coach Clint. The auction will take place at the Davenport Derby Dash, to be held Wednesday, May 1st, at Audubon Country Club at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Davenport Family Scholarship at Bellarmine University and the Bellarmine men's basketball program, both passions of Clinton Glasscock.
Scott Davenport, head men's basketball coach at Bellarmine said, "Clint's passion was infectious. His efforts in creating the Knight Club helped launch us to Division 1 and showed how devoted he was to Bellarmine basketball, and his time spent mentoring our players away from the court showed how much he cared about the future success of our young men after graduation. Not a day goes by when we don't miss Clint"
Furthermore, the 10% owner of Coach Clint will be entitled to racing privileges associated with the actual ownership experience provided by Starlight Racing. This unique opportunity not only celebrates Glasscock's passion for horse racing but also honors his enduring commitment to philanthropy and community service.
The naming of Coach Clint and the organization of this benefit serve as a poignant reminder of Glasscock's enduring legacy and the impact he continues to have on the lives of others.
