Lammas, who was purchased in England at the ripe age of 5, was already a nice import for owners Ron Charles and Samuel Gordon. The now 7-year-old gelding delivered his biggest payoff yet April 27 with a victory in the $177,700 San Francisco Mile Stakes (G3T) at Golden Gate Fields.

The one-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up ran with a field of 11 and could be the final graded stakes ever run at Golden Gate, which is scheduled to close after the conclusion of its current meeting June 9.

Charles and Gordon purchased Lammas for $55,327 at the 2022 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up and Horses In Training Sale. Placed with trainer Manuel Badilla, Lammas has a found a new home over the turf and synthetic track in Northern California. The San Francisco Mile was his seventh win in 18 starts in America, including victories in the 2023 Sam Spear Memorial Stakes and 2022 Berkeley Handicap (G3), both at Golden Gate.

Lammas won by a head and a half length over Southern California shippers Air Force Red and Balnikhov, who won this race last year. Lammas paid $21.60 to win.

Lammas' final time over the firm turf was 1:34.30. He improved his career record to 10 wins from 30 starts and earnings of $342,618.

By Heeraat and out of the Speightstown mare Spate Rise, Lammas hails from an American female family. His third dam is the stakes-placed Spectacular Bid mare Add, a half sister to 1989 Gran Criterium (G1) winner and successful Japanese sire Jade Robbery and grade 3 winners Numerous and Chequer.
