Several Thoroughbred Incentive Program-eligible horses are entered in the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event April 25-28 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event features riders from nine countries, including Olympic veterans and leading contenders for this summer's Olympic Games in Paris. The event features its traditional CCI5*-L, one of only seven Five-Star three-day events worldwide, which serves as the Defender/USEF CCI5*-L Eventing National Championship for United States riders. The event also features the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S as well as an FEI-recognized show jumping competition—the $225,000 Kentucky CSI4* Invitational Grand Prix presented by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute featuring five of the world's top 25 ranked riders.

The Jockey Club created the T.I.P. to encourage the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon completion of careers in racing or breeding.

The sport of eventing consists of three distinct elements: dressage (Thursday and Friday, cross-country (Saturday), and show jumping (Sunday). The winner is determined by the horse-and-rider combination with the fewest combined penalties from the three phases. Riders compete for a chance to win $375,000 in prize money and a shot at the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, which is awarded to any rider who wins the Defender Kentucky, MARS Badminton, and Defender Burghley Five Star Events in succession.
