Elaine Sneirson Savin, who with her late husband Pete Savin were involved in Thoroughbred racing as owner/breeder Petelain Stables, died Jan. 27 after a short battle with cancer. She was 90.

Elaine Savin was the eldest of two daughters born in Binghamton, N.Y., to Dr. Hyman Sneirson, a renowned surgeon and World World II veteran of Patton's army, and Barbara Gordon Sneirson. Savin graduated from the Emma Willard School and Cornell University, where she met the love of her life, Marvin S. "Pete" Savin. They were married for 45 years until he died in 1998.

Together they bred and raced Thoroughbreds, with Pat Byrne and Phil Gleaves being two of their principal trainers.

Elaine Savin was around the sport of Thoroughbred racing for a long time as the daughter-in-law of Butch Savin, who, as Aisco Stables, owned Mr. Prospector and other top horses, such as homebreds Forward Gal, Royal and Regal, and Phantom Jet.  Scott Savin, the former president of Gulfstream Park and a grade 1-winning owner, is her nephew through marriage.

Elaine leaves five children: Stacey Savin and husband Hon. Robert C. Chatigny of Simsbury, Conn.; Nina Savin Scott and husband William Scott of Kennebunkport, Maine; Sugar Savin McCauley and husband Bill McCauley of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; Terri Savin Docal of Miami, Fla.; and John Peter Savin, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and she leaves her cousin, Lynne Snierson, of Salem, N.H.

She also is survived by 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service is being held for the family.
