Book Value Upgrades to Mandaloun's First Stakes Winner
Book Value parlayed his standing as freshman sire Mandaloun's first United States winner to an upgraded position as the Juddmonte Farms stallion's first black-type winner. The Ohio-bred gelding owned by Marion Gorham, who races as Marion F. Gorham Revocable Trust, and is trained by Marion's brother Robert Gorham, captured the Hoover Stakes July 17 at Belterra Park by 5 1/2 lengths. He won the 5 1/2-furlong race on Belterra's main track and stopped the timer at 1:04.25. Book Value is 2-for-2 having won his racing debut June 16 at Thistledown. Robert Gorham bred Book Value out of the Speightstown daughter Wall Street Lady, who is the dam of grade 1-placed stakes winner Livingmybestlife (The Big Beast). He bought the mare for $8,500 through Wanamaker's 2021 February Sale from Maccabee Farm consignment. Wall Street Lady now has three winners from as many starters and has a yearling filly by Yaupon. Mandaloun is a Juddmonte homebred by multiple leading sire Into Mischief. He was undefeated in two starts at 2 and then at 3 captured the Risen Star Stakes (G2) on the road to the Kentucky Derby (G1). He crossed the wire second in the Derby and later was promoted to first following the disqualification of Medina Spirit. Mandaloun also won the 2021 Haskell Stakes (G1) and 2022 Louisiana Stakes (G3) on his way to earning $3,356,052. Mandaloun stands for $10,000.
