Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue Joins 'Gallop for Good'
Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue is proud to participate in Gallop for Good: From Race to Retirement, a national giving campaign launched by Churchill Downs Incorporated to raise awareness and support for organizations dedicated to Thoroughbred aftercare. As an accredited Thoroughbred aftercare organization, Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue has spent nearly two decades providing retirement, rehabilitation, retraining opportunities, and lifelong sanctuary for Thoroughbreds transitioning from racing careers. Through Gallop for Good, the organization hopes to highlight the important work that happens after a horse leaves the racetrack and inspire supporters to invest in their future. Thoroughbreds are remarkable athletes whose careers on the track represent only one chapter of their lives. After retirement, many continue on to new careers, while others require rehabilitation, specialized care, or permanent sanctuary. Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue is committed to ensuring that these horses receive the support, dignity, and opportunities they deserve throughout their retirement. "Every Thoroughbred deserves a safe and supported transition after racing," said Deanna Hearn, Founder and Executive Director of Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue. "At Lucky Orphans, we see firsthand how these incredible horses continue to inspire and change lives long after their racing careers end. Gallop for Good gives our community an opportunity to invest in their future and celebrate the lasting impact Thoroughbreds have both on and off the track." Located in Dover Plains, New York, Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue currently provides care for 20 retired Thoroughbreds while serving hundreds of children, veterans, first responders, and community members through equine assisted learning and personal development programs. The organization's mission is simple: People Helping Horses Heal People. Gallop for Good brings together Thoroughbred aftercare organizations from across the country to celebrate the journey from racetrack to retirement while raising critical funds for the horses who depend on them. Donations made through the campaign directly support feed, veterinary care, farrier services, shelter, and the long-term care retired Thoroughbreds need to thrive.
