Mind Your Biscuits Dies Suddenly in Japan at 13
Multiple New York champion and expatriate stallion Mind Your Biscuits died suddenly June 9 at Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido, Japan, according to several international news outlets. The 13-year-old multimillionaire son of Posse was reportedly doing well and then after an afternoon breeding his condition deteriorated quickly. Teruya Yoshida, with Shadai, told the Japanese news outlet ZBAT: "I am surprised that he died suddenly. He was still only 13 and young, and I'm really sorry because he was siring good foals." Jumping Jack Racing bred Mind Your Biscuits in New York out of the Toccet mare Jazzmane, who had yet to produce a black-type runner. Allied Bloodstock sold Mind Your Biscuits for $47,000 to Machmer Hall as a yearling during the 2014 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. Through Select Sales, the colt was a buyback at the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearlings Sale in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He would be offered next by Susan Montanye's SBM Training and Sales at the 2015 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale where he was bought back again on a final bid of $47,000. Mind Your Biscuits started racing in the summer of 2015 for J Stables, Scott Summers, Hope Summers, and Daniel Summers. The colt captured his first win at 3 with trainer Robert Falcone Jr., taking a maiden special weight by 7 1/2 lengths. He became a graded stakes winner four races later when he won the 2016 Amsterdam Stakes (G2). Prior to the 2016 Breeders' Cup World Championships, Sol Kumin's Head of Plains Partners and Michael Kisber bought into Mind Your Biscuits and watched him finish third in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), then later moved up to second following a medication positive discovered with runner-up Masochistic. He would end 2016 with his first grade 1 win in the Malibu Stakes (G1). At 4 and 5 with trainer Chad Summers, Mind Your Biscuits became an exponentially better racehorse. He would only finish out of the money twice during 2017-18 and captured consecutive victories in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) at Meydan Racecourse. Additionally, he had runner-up efforts in the 2018 Metropolitan Handicap (G1), 2018 Whitney Stakes (G1), and 2017 Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) and was third in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Sprint. Shadai Farm bought into Mind Your Biscuits in the spring of 2018 and launched his stud career in 2019 after he retired with an 8-10-3 record from 25 starts and $4,279,566 in earnings. As a stallion, Mind Your Biscuit has sired 220 winners from six crops of racing age, as of June 10. His top performers include 2023 UAE Derby (G2) winner Derma Sotogake (JPN), who ran second in that year's Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). He also sired Japanese group stakes winners Ho O Biscuits and Ma Puce and stakes winner Maruka Rapid. Mind Your Biscuits' runners have collectively earned more than $25 million worldwide.
