Slay the Day Eyes Another Grade 3 Win in Soaring Softly

Runner-up in the April 30 Mamzelle Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs, grade 3 winner Slay the Day looks to get back to winning ways in the $200,000 Soaring Softly Stakes (G3T) June 7 at Saratoga Race Course. The 3-year-old daughter of Into Mischief previously established herself as a grade 3 winner in Keeneland's Limestone Stakes (G3T), where she beat a field of eight other filly sprinters on the grass, including Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T) winner Cy Fair. The Limestone was contested at 5 1/2 furlongs, the same distance as Sunday's test that has drawn seven 3-year-old fillies (as well as main-track-only Niche). Five out of the eight fillies behind Slay the Day in the Limestone have gone on to win or place in their next start. "The form around those races has been very solid," trainer Brian Lynch said. "She’s been training very well and seems to be going into this race in very good order." Slay the Day will face European invader Flowerhead (IRE) Sunday, a group 2-placed daughter of Starman (GB) who’s looking for success in her American debut. "She’s doing quite well," trainer Charlie Clover said. "The owner likes to flip and flop horses to where he thinks they suit best and with Flowerhead, with a disposition as a short and sharp-looking sprinter, we thought 5 1/2 on a tight-turning track could be a nice option for her."
