$10.5 Million Flightline Colt Arrives at Santa Anita

The Flightline colt, who sold for an eye-popping $10.5 million April 17 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, arrived at trainer Bob Baffert's barn at Santa Anita Park April 18, shortly before 9:00 p.m. "He's a specimen," Baffert said April 19. "A man among boys, really. And with his pedigree, you know why he cost so much." Bloodstock agent Donato Lanni signed the sales ticket for the colt on behalf of owner Zedan Racing, whose principal is Amr Zedan. The purchase price shattered the all-time Ocala Breeders' Sales record of $3 million, which Zedan paid for grade 1 winner Brant at the 2025 OBS March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. It is also the second-highest price ever paid for a 2-year-old in North America. In 2006, The Green Monkey commanded $16 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. Baffert said the colt handled the cross-country trip to Santa Anita so well that he'll likely go to the track the morning of April 20 for light exercise. "He's a handful. He's jumping out of his skin," Baffert said. The bay colt is from the first crop of Flightline, the brilliant 2022 Horse of the Year, who was retired a perfect 6-for-6 with four grade 1 wins, including the 2022 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). His dam is Lucrezia, a daughter of perennial top stallion Into Mischief, who was a two-time stakes winner and grade 2-placed. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Edward and Beverly Seltzer, and W. S. Farish. He first sold at auction as a weanling for $575,000 at the 2024 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, where he was purchased by Tom Durant's Classic Equine. Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds consigned the colt at the OBS Spring Sale. At the under-tack show for the OBS sale, the colt wowed onlookers when blazing a furlong in :09 3/5. During his racing career, Flightline was trained by John Sadler and based at Santa Anita. He now stands at Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., where he commands a stud fee of $125,000.
