Carmouche, Scalable Combination a Force in Top Flight

Jockey Kendrick Carmouche has ridden graded stakes winner Scalable just three times in her 16-race career, but he's made those opportunities count, twice winning stakes and placing second in another, all at Aqueduct Racetrack. On March 29, the late-running mare and rider aim for more Aqueduct success against five fillies and mares in the $175,000 Top Flight Stakes. The $135,000 Haynesfield Stakes for New York-breds follows the Top Flight as the final race Sunday. Last out for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, Scalable won the Feb. 6 Ladies Stakes at Aqueduct over Top Flight returnee Berniestakescharge. "She's a really cool horse and Kendrick rode her perfectly last time," Pletcher assistant trainer Stu Hampson said. Mike Repole of Repole Stable owns the 5-year-old gray and/or roan daughter of Speightstown, who has race-high earnings of $634,128 and a 5-2-2 record. Recent first-level allowance optional claiming winners Snowyte and Lost Horizon are other contenders. About 30 minutes after the Top Flight, Pletcher competes in the Haynesfield with Donegal Racing's Donegal Surges and Red Oak Stable's Prince Valiant, both coming off victories against easier. Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's National Identity, riding a four-race win streak in shorter races for trainer Danny Gargan, races a mile for just the second time in his 10-race career. He ran second, beaten a nose, in the Gander Stakes last March over the mile distance.
