Cloe Ships West for Senorita Stakes
Florida-based trainer Jose D'Angelo has not one but two speedy sophomore turf fillies in his barn. A few weeks after taking down Keeneland's Limestone Stakes with Shisospicy, the Venezuelan-born conditioner sends Lugamo Racing Stable's Cloe out west for a bid in the $100,000 Senorita Stakes (G3T) April 27 at Santa Anita Park. Cloe comes into the 6 1/2-furlong Senorita, contested over Santa Anita's signature downhill turf course, already a stakes winner for D'Angelo. In her most recent outing, the Tiz the Law filly blazed to a gate-to-wire score in the Melody of Colors Stakes March 23 at Gulfstream Park, racing the five panels in a snappy :54.83. Breaking from the one hole, the probable pacesetter and 124-pound high weight will be piloted by Luis Saez, who will also be making the journey to the Golden State from Kentucky. Irish-bred Jungle Peace (IRE) is one of the locals looking to undermine the East Coast shipper. Trained by Phil D'Amato, the Bungle Inthejungle (GB) filly is 2-for-2 over the Santa Anita lawn. She defeated the opposing Schilflied in front-running fashion March 9 in a six-furlong turf allowance optional claimer event. Schilflied, from the Patrick Gallagher barn, would come back to post a half-length tally in another allowance April 6. Cutting back in trip for the Senorita is Amorita, a Liam's Map filly who posted the co-highest Equibase Speed Figure in the field (98) in back-to-back starts for trainer Richard Mandella. She was last a runner-up to Will Then in the March 23 China Doll Stakes going a mile.
