Manny Wah Retired, to Enter Stud in Arkansas
Susan Naylor's millionaire warrior Manny Wah, winner of the 2022 Phoenix Stakes (G2) at Keeneland, has been retired and will enter stud at Robert and Tyree Wolesensky's Leadem Farm in Leola, Ark. Manny Wah, a 9-year-old son of Will Take Charge, ran 48 times while racing from 2-8 and was a stakes performer every year at distances from 5 1/2 furlongs to just over a mile on dirt and turf. He compiled a 5-11-8 record and earned $1,012,499. He was a two-time winner and twice stakes-placed at 2 and and was twice graded stakes-placed at 8 in the Toboggan Stakes (G3) and Tom Fool Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack. Along with his grade 2 win at Keeneland, Manny Wah ended his 3-year-old campaign with a third behind grade 1 winners Omaha Beach and Roadster in the Malibu Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park. At 4, Manny Wah won the 5 1/2-furlong Duncan F. Kenner Stakes on the turf at the Fairgrounds Racecourse & Slots. One of most impressive races was a close fourth-place finish in the 2022 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) to champion Elite Power, CZ Rocket, and Jackie's Warrior. Martha Jane Mulholland and Modo Tesio Equine bred Manny Wah in Kentucky out of the grade 1-placed winner Battlefield Angel (Proud Citizen), who was third in the Alcibiades Stakes (G1). Battlefield Angel is a half sister to 2017 Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Lookin at Lee and multiple graded stakes winner Blended Citizen, who won the Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park, Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway Park, and Louisiana Stakes (G3) at Fairgrounds. Battlefield Angel is a daughter of graded-placed stakes winner Langara Lass (Langfuhr), who is full sister to stakes winner Madeira Park and a half sister to stakes winners Overact and Ambleside Park. "I believe Manny Wah is the best stallion prospect to ever retire to Arkansas," said Jay Goodwin, who brokered the deal along with Martha Jane Mulholland. "He was an absolute warrior horse with elite speed who was also able to go long and placed in the grade 3 Lecomte Stakes as a 3-year-old at the Fairgrounds and who placed locally in Arkansas at Oaklawn in the grade 3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap." Manny Wah will stand his initial season at $2,500 with a live foal stands and nurses guarantee. He will be available for inspection at Mulholland Springs at 2245 Iron Works Pike in Lexington, before leaving for Arkansas following the conclusion of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.
