First Reported Foal for Horse of the Year Cody's Wish
The first reported foal by 2023 Horse of the Year and two-time Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Cody's Wish was born Jan. 6 at Ramiro Salazar's Phoenix Farm and Racing near Georgetown, Ky. Bred by Frederick and May Construction, the colt is out of grade 2 winner Hotshot Anna, who was purchased by her owners at the 2022 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $400,000 from the Bedouin Bloodstock consignment. The new colt is the mare's third foal. She has a 2-year-old Quality Road filly named Rose to Riches and a yearling colt by Life Is Good. Hotshot Anna, by Trappe Shot, is a dual grade 2 winner who also set a seven-furlong track record of 1:20.93 in the 2018 Chicago Handicap (G3) at Arlington International Racecourse. The mare is a half sister to multiple grade 3 winner Our Secret Agent (Secret Circle). Cody's Wish, now 7, is Curlin's only five-time grade 1-winning son. He raced as a Godolphin homebred trained by Bill Mott and won seven graded stakes while racing from 3 to 5. He retired with more than $3.1 million in earnings and compiled a 11-1-4 record from 16 starts. He is out of the grade 1-winning Tapit mare Dance Card, making him a half brother to grade 2 winner Endorsed (Medaglia d'Oro). Dance Card also is the grandam of last year's Breeders' Futurity (G1) winner East Avenue (Medaglia d'Oro).
