Soul of an Angel, Power Squeeze Clash in Rampart
C2 Racing Stable, Agave Racing Stable, and Ken Reimer's Soul of an Angel, dramatic winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) Nov. 2, and this summer's Alabama Stakes (G1) winner Power Squeeze will line up together for the first time in the $140,000 Rampart Stakes Dec. 26 at Gulfstream Park. Soul of an Angel, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., drew outermost post 8 in the one-mile Rampart for fillies and mares 3 and up. She returned to the work tab for the first time since her Breeders' Cup victory with a three-furlong breeze in :38.18 Dec. 16 at Gulfstream. "She's going to have one more work tomorrow," Joseph said. "She's going to go a half-mile. It's her first race back from the Breeders' Cup. We gave her a little freshening and hopefully this will get her back on track." Joseph also entered 3-year-old Save Time and multiple stakes winner Intrepid Daydream, cross-entered in the Dec. 21 $140,000 Sugar Swirl Stakes. Lea Farms' Power Squeeze, winner of the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), gave trainer Jorge Delgado his first grade 1 victory in the Aug. 17 Alabama at Saratoga Race Course. The 3-year-old filly preceded that effort with a win in the Delaware Oaks (G3), and was seventh last time out behind Thorpedo Anna in the Sept. 21 Cotillion Stakes (G1). Delgado also has Unsolved Mystery for the Rampart, a 5-year-old multiple stakes-placed mare that was sixth to Soul of an Angel in the Sept. 21 Princess Rooney Invitational Stakes (G3).
