Leading Florida Sire Khozan Relocates to Ocala Stud
Khozan, Florida's leading general sire annually since 2020, has relocated from Journeyman Stud and will stand the upcoming breeding season at Ocala Stud, the latter farm announced. He will have a $6,000 stands-and-nurses fee. "We're excited to welcome Khozan to Ocala Stud," said Ocala Stud manager David O'Farrell. "He has proven his ability to sire top-class racehorses, and we're looking forward to offering breeders the opportunity to breed to the state's leading sire." By Distorted Humor and out of the multiple graded stakes-winning A.P. Indy mare Delta Princess—making him a half to three-time Eclipse champion Royal Delta and grade 1 winners Crown Queen and Delta Prince—Khozan was Florida's leading first-crop sire in 2019. He has since topped Florida's general sire standings. He is the leading general sire again in Florida in 2024 through Nov. 19 by progeny earnings ($5,034,269), number of winners (106), stakes winners (three), and black-type horses (11). Khozan is represented this season by graded winner R Harper Rose, stakes winner Lure Him In, and the graded stakes-placed Hot Peppers. "Standing stallions is a seven-day-a-week job," said Brent Fernung, who owns Journeyman Stud with his wife, Crystal. "Crystal and I decided towards the end of last breeding season that it was time for us to redirect our energy elsewhere. When we discussed where to move Khozan to, Ocala Stud was the only choice. The O'Farrells do a great job, and we know we are leaving Khozan in the best of hands."
