No Show Sammy Jo Looks to Add Long Island to Win Streak
Continuing to rise up the ranks, Bridlewood Farm and Madaket Stables' No Show Sammy Jo (GB) rides a four-race win streak into her toughest task yet: the $300,000 Long Island Stakes (G3T) at Aqueduct Racetrack Nov. 10. The 4-year-old Lope de Vega (IRE) filly has been unbeatable since breaking her maiden at second asking last year. This season, she is 3-for-3 for trainer Graham Motion as she has steadily increased in distance and Equibase Speed Figures. In her last start, she won the 1 1/8-mile All Along Stakes at Laurel Park Sept. 14 by 1 1/4 lengths. Now the earner of $217,900 stretches out to 1 3/8 miles for the first time over a track she won on in May. Motion also trains Wertheimer and Frere's Blush (IRE), a group 3 winner in France who was fourth in the Sept. 14 E. P. Taylor Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine in her North American debut, a race in which subsequent Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T) winner Moira was second. Among their nine other competitors are the 1-2 finishers of the Oct. 4 Waya Stakes (G3T), which was contested at the same course and distance. LSU Stables' La Mehana (FR) overcame bumping at the start to defeat Wathnan Racing's Immensitude (FR) by a neck. Both runners were flattered Nov. 2 when third-place finisher Beautiful Love (IRE) finished a solid fourth to Moira at Del Mar.
