Tapit Trice to Stand at Gainesway Upon Retirement

Whisper Hill Farm and Gainesway have announced that grade 1 winner and classic-placed Tapit Trice will enter stud at Gainesway upon his retirement from racing. Tapit Trice, a Gainesway homebred, is out of the grade 3-placed stakes-winning Dunkirk mare Danzatrice, who herself is a half sister to the champion 2-year-old filly Jaywalk. He was subsequently sold to Mandy Pope's Whisper Hill Farm for $1.3 million at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. A winner at 2, Tapit Trice captured the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) and Blue Grass Stakes (G1) during his sophomore campaign. He also placed in both the Belmont Stakes (G1) and Travers Stakes (G1). "Winning the grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes in partnership with Gainesway has been a real highlight for our racing stable," Mandy Pope said. "We are extremely excited about Tapit Trice's potential at stud and will be supporting him with some of our best mares." Entered in the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 2 at Del Mar, Tapit Trice was victorious this year's Woodward Stakes (G2) and Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3). "I could not be prouder or more excited to partner with Mandy and bring this exciting homebred son of Tapit back to Gainesway Farm," said Gainesway chairman Antony Beck. "Tapit Trice is line-bred 3x4 to both A.P. Indy and Unbridled, two of the most influential stallions of this era. Our hope is he follows in his father's footsteps." A stud fee will be announced upon his retirement.
