Aguas de Cristal First Winner for G1 Winner Volatile
Three Chimneys Farm's grade 1 winning stallion Volatile was represented by his first winner June 16 as Aguas de Cristal won the fifth race, a five-furlong maiden special weight, at Monmouth Park. Bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Aguas de Cristal was purchased for $75,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by New Horizons Bloodstock and raced in her debut for Strike Stable and trainer Jorge Delgado. Breaking well, the daughter of Volatile stalked the pace with plenty of energy for jockey Jairo Rendon. Entering the stretch, Aguas de Cristal powered past frontrunning favorite Me Governor and drew away to win by 4 1/2 lengths in :58.82. Bred by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings and Stretch Run Ventures, Volatile flashed plenty of talent on the track by winning five of his six starts from 2019-20. After earning his first stakes victory in the listed 2020 Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs, the son of Violence made a successful jump in class when taking down the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) at Saratoga Race Course for owners Three Chimneys and Phoenix Thoroughbred. In that gate-to-wire victory, Volatile defeated champion Whitmore and grade 1 winners Mind Control, and Firenze Fire. Aguas de Cristal is out of the two-time stakes-placed Bayern mare Cedar Hall. Volatile stands the 2024 season at Three Chimneys for $15,000.
