Lym Appointed Executive Director of Ontario HBPA

The Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario announced March 27 the appointment of Steven Lym as executive director. "We are excited to have Steve back in Ontario," said HBPA president Sue Leslie. "Steve has comprehensive experience and knowledge of the horse racing industry, especially within Ontario." A former vice president of racing and racing secretary at Santa Anita Park, Lym also worked at Woodbine for 32 years, starting as a clocker, Equibase chartcaller, racing secretary, and director of the Thoroughbred racing department. From 2003 to 2013, Lym served as its racing secretary, then became director of racing until his departure in 2018. He also has served on numerous industry committees, Breeders Cup Selection Committee, World's Best Horseracing Rankings Executive Committee, Canadian Graded Stakes Committee, board member of the Avelino Gomez Foundation, and been a member of several industry working groups. Lym also worked a trainer, running his own stable in the mid-1980s.
