Favorable Outcome to Remain at Stud in Nebraska
Multiple grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner and young Nebraska sire Favorable Outcome has been sold but will remain in the Cornhusker State because of the upside potential from new racinos. Owner/breeder Dan Kjorsvik bought Favorable Outcome because he saw the son of Flatter as the perfect fit for Nebraska breeders. "Nebraska does not have any turf racing. Fonner Park is a five-furlong track, so you need dirt speed here, and Favorable Outcome brings that," he said. "He was a dirt sprinter that won up to eight furlongs. He was third to Practical Joke and Syndergaard in the Champagne Stakes and third to City of Light in the Malibu, so I feel he has enough speed in his pedigree." Charles Matses bred Favorable Outcome in Kentucky out of the stakes winner and multiple stakes producer Shananies Song. The colt was sold for $300,000 to Klaravich Stable during the 2016 Ocala Breeders' Sales March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale out of Tom McCrocklin's consignment. For Klaravich and trainer Chad Brown, Favorable Outcome won five races—including the Swale Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park—and earned $405,382. He would eventually be offered as a racing prospect during the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, where Cindy Evans Perez and Amy Hardy bought him for $20,000 out of the ELiTE consignment. The partners raced him three years and picked up five more wins, which included the Front Range Stakes at Arapahoe Park. He was retired in the spring of 2022 at 8 with an 8-4-4 record from 28 starts and $522,818 in earnings. Favorable Outcome bred one mare in 2022 and has one foal, but didn't cover any mares this year. His owners decided to get out of the stallion business and had offers from overseas. Once Kjorsvik learned the stallion was available through F4 Farms in Ashland, Neb., where the stallion was standing, he had the farm contact the owners. Kjorsvik had earlier purchased a stallion prospect specifically for the Nebraska market in 2021 but lost the horse to colic. "I had been looking for another prospect but could not find one that I thought was a good fit for Nebraska," he said. "Then Favorable Outcome was brought here, and I thought I'd missed my opportunity. It is a small breeding state, and I thought if I brought in another stallion, it would cannibalize the industry. I just didn't think we would get enough mares to cover the expense." Perez and Hardy agreed to sell Favorable Outcome to Kjorsvik, and he had his perfect fit. "Once all the casinos and new tracks are built, we'll have four Thoroughbred tracks running in Nebraska," he said. "I'm hoping once everything gets going, we'll have 80 racing days, so if you have a state-bred horse that should give you a lot of opportunity to run." Kjorsvik said he will be shopping the winter mixed sales for mares to send to Favorable Outcome. The stallion remains at F4 Farms, where he will stand for $2,000 with a discount available to multiple mares.
