City of Light Colt Flashes Speed on Day 4 at OBS

The fourth session of the June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age under tack show took place June 8 at Ocala Breeders' Sales, where a colt by City of Light blitzed an eighth of a mile in :09 4/5. Two juveniles turned in a quarter in :21 flat to be the quickest at the distance Thursday. The Wavertree Stables-consigned City of Light colt (Hip 570) effortlessly moved across the all-weather surface just before 9 a.m. ET, turning in the fastest furlong of the day in :09 4/5. Out of the winning Henny Hughes mare Wear Red, the colt is sibling to two winners, including the grade 3-placed stakes winner Jessica Krupnick. He comes from the family of Wood Memorial (G1)-winning sire Eskendereya and the Middle Park Stakes (G1) winner in England, Balmont. The pinhook was purchased for $170,000 by Superfine Farms during the Keeneland September Sale last year from Gainesway, and this year was entered in both the March and April OBS sales but subsequently withdrawn. Sanford Robertson bred the bay colt in Kentucky. Eleven juveniles clocked an eighth of a mile in :10 flat during Thursday's under tack session. At the beginning of the day, Omar Ramirez Bloodstock saw its First Samurai colt go in :21 flat. The chestnut colt (Hip 588) is the second foal out of the winning dam Woodsboro, who was bred in Kentucky by Remount Thoroughbreds. Ramirez purchased the colt during the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Yearlings Sale last year for $65,000 and pinhooked him to the Spring Sale here at OBS, selling for $50,000 to My Little Team Racing. Also achieving the co-fastest quarter, the dark bay or brown Violence filly consigned by A.G. Sales as Hip 703 sped down the track early in the morning, leaving little to be desired. Out of the unraced Orientate mare Brief Tears, the juvenile is a half sibling to Bob Hope Stakes (G3) winner No Problem and four other winners. Wilhite and Nursery Place bred the filly in Kentucky before sending her through the September Sale last year, where Jose Andres Gaspar picked her up for $10,000. Two juveniles recorded the second-fastest quarter in :21 1/5, including the McKathan Bros. Sales colt by Midshipman (Hip 571) and a Demarchelier (GB) colt consigned as Hip 610 by Top Line Sales. CM Thoroughbreds breezed two individuals three-eighths of a mile in :34 2/5, the St. Patrick's Day colt (Hip 653) and a Palace Malice filly named Pamz Palace (Hip 707). The under tack show continues tomorrow, beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET, with Hips 721-900 to take to the track. Breezing continues through June 10, and the three-day sale begins June 13. The under tack show can be live-streamed here, and replays can be found online.
