Poster Girl Tops CTBA Winter Mixed Sale at $70,000

Poster Girl (GB), an earner of $200,192 and third-place runner in the 2018 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita Park, sold in foal to California stallion Halladay for $70,000 to top the Jan. 31 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Winter Mixed Sale at Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. The 10-year-old broodmare (Hip 25), by English stallion Excellent Art (GB) was consigned by Adrian Gonzalez's Checkmate Thoroughbreds, and was purchased by Cedros Bloodstock of Rancho San Miguel, Calif. Poster Girl is carrying her second foal and has a yearling filly by More Than Ready. The highest-priced 2-year-old of the single-day session was Rachael's Ride, a California-bred filly (Hip 56) by Clubhouse Ride, out of the Bodemeister mare Slalom. Bred by Tony Busching and Carol Busching, the unraced filly was purchased for $43,000 by Nick J. Hines, agent for Michael Nentwig of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Hines and Nentwig also combined to purchase a 2-year-old Cal-bred filly (Hip 141) by Om, out of the grade 2 stakes-placed Good Journey mare Kathleen Rose and an unnamed 2-year-old Sir Prancealot (IRE) colt (Hip 18) out of the stakes-placed Havana Gold (IRE) mare Nonna Gianna (IRE). Both sold for $33,000. There were 90 horses sold of the 128 through the sales ring for a gross of $821,400, at an average price of $9,127 and a median of $4,750. There were 38 horses that failed to meet their reserves representing an RNA rate of 30%.
