Canadian Classic Winner Coltimus Prime Sent to Maryland

Canadian classic winner Coltimus Prime has been relocated for the 2023 breeding season to Shamrock Farm near Woodbine, Md. The 12-year-old son of Milwaukee Brew and his only sire-son joins the roster at Shamrock along with veteran sire Outflanker, Barbados, and Rainbow Heir. He will stand for $1,500 with special arrangements available for qualifying mares, according to farm manager Jim Steele. Coltimus Prime compiled an 8-7-5 record from 38 starts and earned $644,125. At 2, he broke his maiden by eight lengths at Woodbine and was runner-up in the Display Stakes. At 3, he earned his first stakes victory in the 2014 Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, winning in the fastest time posted this century. He would next finish as runner-up in the Ontario Derby (G3). In 2017, former jockey Rene Douglas arranged to bring the horse to Panama, where he earned the country's champion older horse and champion stayer titles that year. His first season in Panama was highlighted by a victory in the Clasico Presidente de la Republica (G1), and he then returned to the U.S. to finish his campaign that year with a victory in the 1 1/4-mile Invitational Cup Stakes on the Clasico Internacional del Caribe card at Gulfstream Park. Bred in Ontario, Coltimus Prime is out of the Distorted Humor mare Certainly Special, who also produced grade 3-placed winner Narrow Escape and stakes winner Crysta's Court.
