Galawi , a winning son of successful international sire Dubawi out of a group 1-winning millionaire half sister to American and European champion Goldikova, will stand his first season at Northview Stallion Station near Chesapeake City, Md., in 2022 for $2,000 live foal, payable when the foal stands and nurses.

A winner retired early due to injury, 4-year-old Galawi is the homebred product of a black-type-rich family nurtured for generations by Jacques Wertheimer, and in recent decades by his sons Alain and Gerard Wertheimer.

Galawi made two starts with placed finishes in Chantilly in France before being sent to trainer Graham Motion earlier this year. The colt impressed with his only U.S. start when accelerating from near-last to first in the final furlong of a 1 1/4-mile race over the Belmont Park inner turf course June 27 to win by half a length, making up three lengths. Trakus clocked Galawi running his specific quarter-mile in :22.04.

"He's stunning looking and has a phenomenal pedigree," said Motion. "I feel he has a stallion's pedigree. I just didn't anticipate him having to be a stallion so soon."

Galawi, is out of 2011 Qatar Prix Vermeille Stakes (G1) winner Galikova (Galileo), who is out of the Blushing Groom winner Born Gold, making her a half sister to five group stakes winners, led by the aforementioned Hall of Famer Goldikova. A champion in the U.S. twice 2009-10 and a champion in France four consecutive years, 2008-11, Goldikova won 14 grade/group 1 races, including three consecutive victories in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) over males and four consecutive wins in the Prix Rothschild (G1) at Deauville.

Galikova's group-winning half brother Anodin was second in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Mile and has sired four graded/group stakes winners. The female line leads to 1981 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) winner and Jacques Wertheimer homebred Gold River.

Galawi, is one of three sons of Dubawi standing in the U.S. Dubawi has sired 219 stakes winners, and had a stellar 2021 Breeders' Cup World Championships as the sire of three winners—Yibir in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T), Space Blues in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile Presented by PDJF, and Modern Games in Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T).

"Turf racing takes up so much of our day-to-day racing, it's a natural to breed to a horse like this," said Motion. "There are so many more opportunities than there used to be for horses on the grass, especially for 2- and 3-year-olds. To get close to Dubawi and close to Goldikova, it doesn't get much better than that."
