Multiple graded stakes winner Hogy was euthanized Aug. 9 after a catastrophic fracture of his left hind ankle in a paddock accident at Old Friends in Georgetown, Ky., the farm announced. Hogy, who had been at the retirement farm since 2019, was 12.

Michael Blowen, founder and president of Old Friends, said Hogy had been attended to by Dr. Ashton Broman of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital.

A gelded son of Offlee Wild bred by Dr. John E. Little in Kentucky, Hogy finished his seven-year career with 55 starts and 19 wins and earnings of $1,339,782.

The near-black gelding whose career stretched from June 2011 to February 2019, won graded stakes and competed at the highest level, including an unplaced finish in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) at Del Mar. The following year he would win two stakes, including the Canadian Turf Stakes (G3T), for trainer Mike Maker and owner Michael Hui, who claimed him for $80,000 in 2017.

"Hogy had become one of the most beloved retirees on the farm and will be deeply missed," said Blowen. "He shared a paddock and became a good friend to Soi Phet, whose career mirrored Hogy's on the West Coast. They were an amazing pair. We're very thankful to Michael Hui for allowing us to care for his warrior of the turf these last two years."
