Editorial recently returned from an extended tour of duty in Peru where he shuttled for the 2019 breeding season but was unable to ship out in 2020 because the coronavirus pandemic forced the South American country to shut its borders. With Peru back open, Editorial returned to American soil and cleared quarantine at the end of January.
"We were very disappointed that we could not get Editorial back last year, but the world pandemic had different plans," said Sean Feld of Climax Stallions, which owns Editorial. "We have heard nothing but great things about the Editorial 2-year-olds. And the fact that Uncle Mo and his sons are on fire, we did everything we could to get him back this year."
Louis Merryman, of Anchor & Hope Farm, said he is excited to have Editorial on the roster.
"Not only does Editorial bring the hot Uncle Mo element, having a son of War Front to add the iconic Danzig line completes our great stallion roster," Merryman said.
Out of the stakes-placed Arch winner Playa Maya and bred in Kentucky by the Playa Maya Syndicate, Editorial was retired to stud with one win and a second-place finish from two starts. His victory came in a 7 1/2-furlong race on the Gulfstream Park turf in 2017.
Other top performers and producers from Editorial's family include winning full sister Could It Be Love, who was second in the Tattersalls Irish One Thousand Guineas (G1), and half sister and winner Grosse Pointe Anne (Silver Deputy), who is the dam of stakes-placed winner Indian Annie (Indian Charlie). Playa Maya's dam, Dixie Slippers (Dixieland Band), is a half sister to Federico Tesio Stakes (G3) and Maryland Juvenile Championship Stakes winner Woods of Windsor (Woodman) and to stakes-placed winners Cyane's Thunder (Thunder Gulch) and Axial Rift (Northern Jove).
Ashford Stud's Uncle Mo led his sire class following their first-crop, second-crop, and third-crop years. He finished up 2020 as the third-leading North American sire by progeny earnings and the leading sire by number of graded/group stakes winners with 14.
Editorial will stand for $2,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee, and he will take part in Climax Stallions' Ship and Win Program, where the breeder receives $500 when a mare makes her first visit to Editorial.
