Grade 1 winner Bodexpress has been retired from racing and will enter stud this year at Barton Thoroughbreds near Santa Ynez, Calif., for $5,000 with a live foal stands and nurses guarantee, according to Kate Penner, with the farm.
The 5-year-old son of Bodemeister retires with a 4-4-3 record from 17 lifetime starts and earnings of $694,600. He won or placed in five stakes—four graded—topped by his victory last fall in the Clark Stakes Presented by Norton Healthcare (G1) at Churchill Downs where he defeated Code of Honor. Bodexpress also was second to Maximum Security in the 2019 Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1). Julio Rada of Platinum Bloodstock, who has been instrumental in acquiring stallions for Barton, brokered the deal on Bodexpress.
Bodexpress is out of the City Zip daughter Pied a Terre, who is a half sister to grade 2 winner Stormy Lord (Stormy Atlantic) and stakes winner Incredicat (Discreet Cat). The immediate family also has produced multiple grade 1 winner and course record-setter Influent, grade 2 winner Whadjathink, and six-time black-type stakes winner Explosive Kate.
Bodemeister won the Arkansas Derby (G1) and was second in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) before retiring to stud. As a stallion, he has sired 19 black-type winners including 2017 Kentucky Derby and Florida Derby winner Always Dreaming , who stands at WinStar Farm and has his first yearlings this year.
Bodexpress is available for inspection at the farm, which also stands Cat Burglar , Champ Pegasus, Dads Caps , and Misremembered.
