Mt. Brilliant Breeds First Foal by Demarchelier

The first foal by Claiborne Farm's first-crop sire and grade 3 winner Demarchelier (GB) was born Jan. 14 at Mt. Brilliant Farm in Central Kentucky, Claiborne announced via Twitter. "An attractive colt born at @mtbrilliant—we can't wait to see more as the season continues," the farm tweeted. Mt. Brilliant bred the colt out of Fastnet Rock's Irish-bred daughter Limbo Loose, who is out of Sail Away Home, a full sister to multiple grade 1 winner and sire Henrythenavigator and multiple group 1-placed, group stakes winner Queen Cleopatra (IRE). The colt is Limbo Loose's third foal. Demarchelier is a 5-year-old son of prominent European sire Dubawi. He was acquired by Peter Brant for 425,000 guineas (US$592,487) at the Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale from his breeder Newsells Park Stud. He won at 2 and became a graded stakes winner in his second start at 3 when he captured the Pennine Ridge Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park. In the Pennine he defeated Henley's Joy and Social Paranoia, who went on to finish first and second, respectively, in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (G1T) in their next start. Demarchelier also started in the Belmont Derby Invitational but took a bad step, which forced his retirement. The stallion is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Loveisallyouneed, a full sister to group 1 winners Yesterday and Quarter Moon. He stands at Claiborne for $5,000.
